A Room Full Of Sharp Edges

One record made it to the front this week, and that is the honest number.

Ghosttown's second various-artists volume, GTVA02, dropped today from a small Munich collective that mostly gets missed outside its own room. Nine tracks, nine writers, one shared instinct: keep the pressure immersive, keep the percussive detail sharp, and let the textures stay a little unstable. The names on it - Finally Julius, Jay Carder, Polygonia, N:in, Burdgurl, KW, Dangermami, cusoon dj, Brootworth - do not read like a chart. They read like a room that already knows what it wants the floor to do.

The bass here is not the kind that arrives on a drop. It is the kind that hangs in the space between the drums, moves the low end forward without asking for attention, and lets the design work happen at the edges. That is why it slots here. Forward-leaning club music that still holds its weight; sound design pushing outward without giving up the low end. The line No Service keeps looking for.

The rest of the week ran quieter. The strict deep 140 lane stayed at zero rather than reach for a track that had already been surfaced somewhere else this month. The broad bass scan came back the same - the strongest exact-page trails all resolved back into catalog already carried, not fresh weight. The jungle side stayed low too; nothing in the pressure end of drum and bass surfaced at the right scale this run.

That is fine. The board earns its own tempo. Bud Culture's Recovered Dubplates Pt. 1 EP from earlier in July is still the standing anchor on the deeper side, and the July 24 selection - DUB KILLER + BEATMASTA, HIJINX, The Bug + Dis Fig, Coloursound - is still doing the work it did when it landed. Nothing has passed those yet.
